Rebecca has a beautiful journey to share about her’s and baby Claire’s breastfeeding success!
Below is Rebecca journey in her words ❤️
I have really wanted to get a special reminder of my breastfeeding journey with my baby girl – Claire. Due to having PCOS it wasn’t an easy journey to conceive Claire, so when I finally found out I was pregnant it was the most amazing feeling. I was very fortunate to have 12 months off work so I have been able to spend each day appreciating every little moment of her life. When I first started my breastfeeding journey with Claire it was rough. Claire was born with a type 4 tongue, lip and buccal ties which meant she was not able to latch and feed properly. This made her tired whilst feeding so she would fall asleep and wasn’t getting enough to drink. It also meant that every feed was absolute agony for me. I finally was able to find a lactation consultant who referred me to a dentist who was able to do laser surgery on Claire when she was 5 weeks old to rectify her ties. It was an instant relief and she started gaining weight. Claire was still very spewy and still insistent on feeding every 45 minutes’ day and night. A doctor recommended that I go dairy free (Claire’s dad is dairy intolerant), it wasn’t until about 6 weeks after me making the dairy free change that we started to see improvement with Claire’s spewing and also her nappies. Most people aren’t as lucky to have access to the support that I did, I certainly would have finished breastfeeding much earlier on had I not have found the lactation consultant (Erin from Essential Midwifery). Claire is now just over 12 months old and we are still going strong.
Having a special piece of jewelry to commemorate the special bond, the sleepless nights and the sore nipples is just the icing on the cake
